      Retro Games Are for Lovers

      Retro Games Are for Lovers

This Valentine’s Day, Mega Cat Studios has 14% off all orders with the coupon code LUSTYMEAT. This discount code ends Friday, but there’s plenty of time to break some hearts and make some memories with 8 & 16 Bit dessert

A curated list of examples and suggestions are below, for new games and old, to celebrate this exciting day.

      The Player's Kit

Mayo seen above for reference only. Disclaimer: This is not representative of Mayo’s character, and is a work of fiction.

V-Day is the most romantic day of the year. So what's a Casanova supposed to do when he has to spread that romance among a handful of Player 2s? Give your ladies the classic log jam jive, that's what.

Whether you have a ton of Tinder pals, a score of side chicks, or you're just running around with your attractive and logistically sympatico neighbor, keeping everyone satisfied is hard work. That's why the Player's Kit is here to help. With Log Jammers, you'll be able to play the same game over and over again, swapping out opponents with ease. There's no long-term commitment here: just intense bouts of guilt-free, sweaty, log-jamming action. You can also call each date by their character's name, which has several perks in and of itself: roleplaying becomes additionally exciting and you can call them by their character name if you forget their real ones.

Kit Includes: 1 copy of Log Jammers for the NES

      Just Add:

      NES Console

      2 Controllers

      Alibis

      Super Matrimony

Are the coffee stains a heart? A suggestive buttocks? Will they be removed with a magic eraser, or will the magic eraser remove the finish again? Is anyone reading this?

      Kit Includes:

      1 Justice Duel

      1 Coffee Crisis

Just Add:  1 bottle of champagne or coffee

Sometimes you save the princess, or the princess saved you. Sometimes there’s no princess at all, just a couple of Zombears enjoying this day together. Sometimes things get spicy and Bowser saves Toad and….. - either way, you're blessed with a real life player 2. Take a quest together to save the galaxy in Coffee Crisis, or, test the limits with some two player Justice Duel. Nothing says ‘til death do us part like testing the limits when the stakes are high: bet household chores with a round of button mashing, or spice up your love life with some suggestive, mech-eagle cosplaying.

No one has to be a loser on this night!

Pro tip: Stretch and relax your airways to get limber before any suggestive maneuvering. Bring forth children into the world 9 months from this day, and there's at least one free game in it for you.

      Bachelor/Bachelorette's Night

Although not as good as some couch co-op fun, the right game can still make single player feel great.

      Kit Includes: Creepy Brawlers

Just Add: An NES Console with no more than one controller

Clear liquor, preferably in a plastic jug

If shrimp flavored Ramen (splurge, and treat yourself, so bust out that Sriracha and give it some flavor) is on the menu tonight, we’ve got the perfect post-dinner activity. After all, it's your special time to celebrate the relationship that brings the most happiness to your existence.

Punish yourself with Creepy Brawlers, because chances are you'll never get past the third fight. If you do, the plastic bottle of booze will give you the company you want and need on this lonely, exhilarating night.

Pro Tip: I saw on reddit last week that Pornhub sorts the "Hottest" videos by the last video a viewer opens before closing the tab. Huh.

      SweetHearts Kit

Sweethearts that play together, stay together. There's chemistry between you both, whether it started as a lusty pun on Tinder, or you're Creepin' up on an engagement. No reservations this year? No problem. Invest in something long term, something real, a symbol of your love for one another with a Mega Cat date night package. There are many, many things great about the utility of a Toga, rather than regular sweatpants and a tshirt, but nothing gets you in the mood like having unfettered access to your date's body

      Kit Includes: Little Medusa

Just Add: Kamasutra (I recommend Yoga Vidya's version here: http://yogavidya.com/Yoga/Kamasutra.pdf)

Toga sheet (See how simple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4hWqIW --rQ)

Icy Hot (Not as an adventurous lubricant, just as a means to soothe the pain you'll inevitably be dealing with tomorrow.)

Pro Tip: Stretch your hamstrings and crack your knuckles, this isn't going to end well. Icy Hot will not, however, help with the burns to your ego after you rage quit Little Medusa.

"Joking aside, here at Mega Cat we love the retro gaming community and all the support they've given us through the years. Whoever you are, we wish you a happy Valentine's Day

We Got Dungeons - A Tactical RPG for the Sega Genesis! Dev Log 1

We Got Dungeons - A Tactical RPG for the Sega Genesis! Dev Log 1

We got danger. We got battle. We got tactics. We got choice. We got story. We Got Dungeons.

Imagine that Neil Gaiman wrote a novel about Buffy the Vampire Slayer investigating some weirdness in Earthbound. Now imagine that this novel was actually a tactical RPG with some rogue-like elements and a unique progression and customization system. Now imagine that this RPG came out for the Sega Genesis in the 90s.

      Still with me? Good…

      Features

We Got Dungeons is a tactical RPG with:

      • Procedurally generated dungeons - every dungeon and every room has different layouts for enemies, traps, hazards, and treasure. No playthrough is the same!
      • Multiple storylines. Pick your lead character and experience 9 different tales about coming to terms with yourself and your world.
      • 90s theme - take on the other side with retro video games, Pogs, and VHS tapes in the mall, in the park, and beyond
      • Tactical combat - choose your party and engage with evil troll dolls and possessed grunge kids. Use strategic positioning and mastery of skills to pull through challenging encounters and battles.
      • Unique customization - The Skill Board system gives you complete control over your characters. Equip any ability, any perk, any stat increase you want -- if you got the room for it, you can use it.

      Story

In a 90s suburbia, not everything is as fly as it seems. Beneath the veneer of normalcy lies cynicism, doubt, and dissatisfaction with life. People want something, they just don't know what that is. But forces from the beyond think they have the answer, and things get weird when they begin to enter our world through the mundane. Weird like your neighbor’s basement going down ten floors. Weird like movie rental stores that are bigger on the inside than on the outside. Weird like your favorite VHS tape trying to choke you to death.

These forces are launching unannounced, unplanned, uninvited visit to our reality. It’s an unbidden invasion of suburbia, an unsought for contact from beyond the screen that separates us from them… and it all starts in your town…

      Characters

So who is gonna step up to stop this invasion? Who can we depend on to turn the tide of this sinister threat? The military? Superheroes? 90s cartoon characters?

Actually, the world’s last hope is your mother.

Eschewing the traditional RPG/tactical RPG heroes of knights, wizards, and rogues, We Got Dungeons features ordinary people in a situation which is definitely buggin’. Luckily, the weirdness that is creeping in from the other side is amping up some of their everyday abilities. Let’s meet a couple of our unsung heroes:

      The Troublemaker

She’s a high-school delinquent that cuts class, smokes, and runs afoul of the local neighborhood watch. Whether it’s flaunting the town’s “No Skateboarding” laws or tagging the convenience store with graffiti, you know the troublemaker is to blame.

Her skateboard and spraypaint come in handy as useful weapons, and she has a variety of skills (like bullying and shoplifting) that maker her a versatile character.

      Your Mother

Dear old mom. Everyone has one. Always there for you, she’ll love you forever, no matter what you do. But don’t let all those bedtime stories, embarrassing baby pictures, and boo-boo kisses fool you; when push comes to shove, mom is who you want on your side to fend off the forces from beyond.

Mom can make you feel better, easing all your troubles and woes with a hug. Or she can totally mess up your social life by grounding you. Either way, the weirdness invading our reality is sure to find out that there is no such thing as “just” a mother.

      We Got More...

Want more dungeons? Keep reading our series of dev logs here. More classes, tons of weapons, armies of 90s enemies -- we are pushing the Sega Genesis to its limits for this one. Next time we’ll introduce some abilities that put the "Tactic" in "Tactical RPG", and a dungeon boss you may recognize from a famous basement…

Bite the Bullet - Dev Log 1

Bite the Bullet - Dev Log 1

Run & Gun, and...eat?  Saw through flesh the new fashioned way or drill through enemies with fast-paced gunslinging with Bite the Bullet. This game combines some of our favorite game elements, ever, with some fun platforming, skill shots, power ups and fast game play.  Also, cannibalism.

      Story

In the 2Xth century, urbanization and pollution caused food and resource shortages. Humanity was able to adopt through technology, devising biologically-implanted nodes which allowed them to consume and metabolize any material, living or inorganic.

This necessity sparked a trend in biological manipulation, and soon mankind split itself into two species – the Celestials, who embraced bio-mods and expanded across the stars from their new lunar home; and the Ghouls, descendants of humans who never utilized the consumption nodes and remained behind on earth, poisoned and twisted by the conditions there.

The strife between these species has caused mistrust, suspicion, even war, and their planetary conflict has attracted the attention, and ire, of a being that is beyond all mortal Flesh.

Now, two champions - half-caste offspring with parents from both species - will attempt to save humanity’s future by fighting through its past on a desolate and perilous world.

      Features

Bite the Bullet is a biopunk run and gun action platformer featuring:

      • The choice to destroy or consume enemies, turning their biological matter into a number of upgrades.
      • 10 levels infested with bladed drones, flame turrets, lightning geckos, blimp rats, and helmet squids.
      • Turn enemies into defenses or weapons, like the Gurtha swarm blowgun, lightning gecko on a stick, or turtle shell plate armor
      • Save up all that consumed flesh and metal in the bio-meter to activate Zombro mode, and pound your foes into smoking ash and bone dust.

      Characters

      Vill and Dart

Two soldiers of the Lunarian forces who have a shared Purebread and Ghoul ancestry. They manage to keep their Ghoul genes hidden, but still carry the bio-implants which enable them to consume all manner of organic and inorganic material

      Garands

Most Ghouls are content with eking out a meager existence on the husk of a planet Earth has become. Others intend to take out their human cousins by force, joining ranks under the Ghoul revolutionary leaders.

      Lightning Geckos

Reptiles that have evolved bio-electric survival mechanisms. They are often hunted by Ghouls as both a source of power and for designer leather boots.

      28s

Sometimes, consumption nodes decay over time, and infect other organs of the host. These speedy Ghouls have significant brain damage, which affects their higher cognitive functions.

      Dire Puffer Fish

Before the great lunar migration, many animals were developed for sport activities. Mechanically altered puffer fish were one of them, as they provided a deadly challenge to a typically peaceful activity.

      Sappys

The Purebreds left plenty of explosives behind on their journey to the Moon. Sappys intend to make this refuse into the instrument of the Purebreds demise.

      Mega Mind

The consumption nodes were created in a bioware lab which was the bleeding edge of technology for its time. Long abondanded, the dispossessed bio-material and implants in the facility begin to cohere. Now, a central, seething mass looms at the core of the laboratory, and its tendrils can be felt throughout the building like a pulsing nervous system.

      Chunks

These large ghouls have several bio-modifications which provide them with super human strength, allowing them to wield suppressive fire weapons which are normally mounted on vehicles

      Blimp Rats

Inflatable sacs in these creatures enable them to float into low hanging trees to gather fruit and leaves. Breathing in the gases stored in these sacs can cause nausea and hallucinations, making these animals short on natural predators.

      Eltons

Hand-picked by Ghoul forces for leg strength and bone density, these individuals were given special implants which allow them to control tiny muscles, allowing them to stabilize and withstand the recoil of their mighty weapons.

      Hamster Squirrel

Mutant rodents with acidic saliva, teeth as hard as granite, and a dangerous nether region. If they were not so volatile, some say that they could be domesticated…

      Buckshots

Internal filtration membranes keep these Ghouls safe from the harmful effects of the drug of choice, but do little to protect their enemies from the spread of their deadly weapons.
