Game Boy Speaker Replacement


Tools: Phillips #00 screwdriver, Solder, Soldering station



Step 1: Make sure the device is turned off and there are no games in it



Step 2: Take off the battery cover



Step 3: Take out the batteries



Step 4: Take out the six screws shown. They could be either tri-point or Phillips screws so make sure you’re using an appropriate screwdriver



Step 5: Slowly separate the front and back halves of the device but do not disconnect or damage the ribbon cable between them



Step 6: Position the device as shown so you can see the socket that the cable is attached to, again making sure to not damage the cable



Step 7: Holding the ribbon between your thumb and index finger, pull slowly to remove the connector (not the ribbon) from the socket The two parts should now be cleanly separated



Step 8: Take out the ten screws (Phillips #00) shown



Step 9: Carefully take out the circuit board (plastic opening tool or credit card would be helpful) – when you do this the speaker will also come out



Step 10: You will be replacing the part of the speaker connected to the circuit board You need to make sure that the other component which is connected to the front plastic case stays in place before re-assembly



Step 11: Remove the two wires from the old speaker and attach them to your replacement speaker. Soldering involved


REVERSE THE ABOVE STEPS TO PUT THE SYSTEM BACK TOGETHER
