Nintendo Wii DVD Drive Replacement


Tools: Phillips #00 screwdriver, Metal spudger, Tri-wing screwdriver, Tweezers



Step 1: Take off the white plastic screw covers shown with a spudger or appropriate substitute



Step 2: Take out the screws shown with a tri-wing screwdriver



Step 3: Take out the screw (5.9 mm Phillips) shown



Step 4: On the bottom of the Wii, you’ll see a rubber foot near the bottom left corner. Remove it with a spudger or appropriate substitute



Step 5: Take out the screw (5.9 mm Phillips) uncovered by the previous step



Step 6: You can now take off the faceplate but it will still be connected by the LED cable’s plastic connector Detach the plastic connector with tweezers



Step 7: Bring the cover for the controller port up to a 90 degree angle and then lift up to remove it Do the same thing for the adjacent cover over the memory card port



Step 8: Take out the screws (4.1 mm Phillips) shown Take off the black cover



Step 9: Take out the screws (5 mm Phillips) shown



Step 10: Take off the covers shown on the side of the console with a spudger or appropriate substitute


Step 11: Take out the screws uncovered by the previous step – the two on the top are 5 mm Phillips and the bottom one is a tri-wing



Step 12: On the bottom face (not the bottom panel) of the console you’ll see two rubber feet as shown. Remove them with a spudger or appropriate substitute



Step 13: Take out the tri-wing screws uncovered by the previous step



Step 14: Take off the outer case of the console



Step 15: Take out the screw shown on the bottom panel and then take out the door (this is the battery door)



Step 16: Take out the tri-wing screw uncovered by the previous step



Step 17: Take out the tri-wing screws shown



Step 18: Take off the shield covering the DVD drive



Step 19: Take out the screws (9 mm Phillips) shown on the DVD drive



Step 20: Pull up the side of the drive across from the controller ports so you can see inside See the power cable for the DVD drive? Slowly pull it out from under the plastic shroud near the heat sink



Step 21: Now pull the same cable away from its socket



Step 22: You should also see a ribbon cable attached to a socket – on the socket itself there is a flap holding the cable in place Open the flap with your fingernail and remove the cable from the socket FInally, take the DVD drive out of the Wii If your replacement drive contains the four rubber grommets along the front and rear of the housing, you can put it in and be done. Otherwise, you will have to read on



Step 23 (if needed): Use a skinny screwdriver to slide the two rear grommets out of the housing as shown Here is the first grommet Step 24: Second grommet, same thing



Step 25: Now slide the two front grommets out First grommet



Step 26: Second grommet


REVERSE THE ABOVE STEPS TO PUT THE CONSOLE BACK TOGETHER
