We opened Steam for a quick look at what’s new, which is usually where things go off the rails. One click leads to another, a screenshot catches your eye, a description raises a question, and now the original plan is nowhere to be found. We had a schedule. Steam had other plans.
At this point, we’re calling it research. There are worlds to poke around in, mysteries to dig into, things to create, and a few very convincing reasons to ignore the clock for a bit. Completely legitimate work. Very productive. No further questions, please.

Otterly Lost

Being lost is a lot less stressful when you’re a sea otter. Swim through kelp forests, caves, rocky canyons, and sunny shores as Otto searches for a way home, with new places, tools, and friends waiting along the way.
What Caught Our Eye
First of all, just look at Otto. A sea otter with a favorite rock? We’re already invested.
Otto’s rock isn’t just there for emotional support either. It can help break through obstacles as you explore, while upgrades let you swim, jump, climb, and glide your way through the world. There are also hidden spots to find, animals to meet, and tools and treasures tucked around the world that make wandering off the obvious path worth it.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
There’s a lot to discover while Otto works his way home, including accessories to collect, trade for, and show off during your travels. You’ll also meet characters who need a hand, like an ancient turtle and a frog with musical ambitions. And if all else fails, you can put Otto in a funny hat. Important stuff.
SILENT HILL: Townfall

Something is very wrong in St. Amelia. Step into the foggy island town in first person, explore its abandoned streets, and start piecing together what brought Simon Ordell back.
What Caught Our Eye
There’s an old TV involved, and it is absolutely not being used for a relaxing night of channel surfing. The CRTV picks up unstable signals tied to the game’s puzzles and story, giving you another reason to pay attention to what’s happening around you. Add limited weapons, stealth, and a town that definitely isn’t rolling out a welcome mat, and we’re already reconsidering that whole “let’s just take a quick look around” approach.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
Townfall puts you right in the middle of its mystery with a first-person perspective and a mix of exploration, puzzles, stealth, and combat. The choices you make can also lead to different endings, so paying attention to the details may matter more than you’d expect. Just remember: if a television starts doing something weird, maybe don’t touch it.
Dressmaker

What happens when your entire job is making clothes for people who have opinions? Find out in Dressmaker, where you’ll design dresses, run your shop, and try to make something your customers actually want to wear.
What Caught Our Eye
We thought we were looking at a cute little dressmaking game. Then we started reading about fabric grain and realized this was getting serious.
The way you place your patterns can affect the finished dress, and you get to choose the fabric for each panel before adding buttons, bows, lace, appliqué, and other details. You can even sketch designs and make samples before committing to the final piece. This is not “pick a cute dress and call it a day.”
Why It’s Worth Your Time
Your shop is where all those designs come together, with customers bringing their own tastes and needs to the table. You can make custom pieces, sell finished dresses, earn coins, and build your reputation around town. And, because no workplace is complete without a tiny supervisor, there’s a kitty hanging around the shop too.
lily’s world XD

There’s an old laptop. There’s a girl named Lily. And there are a lot of things on that computer that you probably shouldn’t ignore. Dig through messages, diary entries, blogs, and hidden clues as you try to figure out what happened.
What Caught Our Eye
We love a game that makes a laptop feel suspicious. lily’s world XD turns an old computer into the place where its mystery unfolds, with messages, photos, diary entries, blogs, and hidden details waiting to be found. The early-web aesthetic makes it feel like you’ve stumbled onto an old corner of the internet that probably should’ve stayed buried.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
The mystery rewards paying attention, since the answers aren’t exactly going to hand themselves over. As you dig deeper, the game starts playing with the boundary between what’s happening on the computer and what’s happening around you. And if you’ve ever thought, “I wonder what happens if I click this,” well... this might not be the safest place to test that theory.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Ashenfall has dragons, forgotten ruins, dangerous creatures, and enough resources to keep you busy for a very long time. Gather, build, craft, train your skills, and carve out your place in this new chapter of the RuneScape world.
What Caught Our Eye
We were going to make a joke about dragons being a minor inconvenience, but Ashenfall has a Dragon Queen, so that feels like tempting fate.
There’s also a very RuneScape-flavored approach to progression here. Your skills aren’t just numbers sitting on a screen. They help unlock abilities and spells that can change how you deal with the world, including a few genuinely wild ones.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
You can build, craft, gather, fight, and explore solo or with friends while developing your character along the way. The world also has its own weird magical tricks, including a spectral axe, Blink, Bones to Peaches, and even a fish tornado. Yes, we had to read that twice too. Add dedicated servers and an evolving roadmap, and Ashenfall looks like a place with room for a lot of experimenting.
Well, that was productive.
We may not have stuck to the original plan, but we did come away with five new games to keep an eye on, so we’re calling the research a success. The schedule can recover later. The wishlist probably cannot.
