OBS Settings for Recording Game Footage
Hello all! Here's some helpful advice from our trailer master, Edwin Seigneur, about getting the perfect settings when using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). With just a few simple steps, you can get a high-quality video for trailers or streaming. Let's get started!
1. Select Capture Settings
Choose Display Capture or Game Capture, depending on your needs.
2. Select Resolution
Select the right resolution. The standard web-monitor resolution is 1920x1080
The standard FPS in trailers is 30fps. Some games can get value by using 60fps if they are fast-paced.
3. Choose Hotkeys
Select your Recording hotkeys. These will make it easier to capture footage.
4. Configure Output Settings
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE THE SAME CONFIGURATION SHOWN HERE
For standard computer and slow internet upload, use these as a default:
- CBR
- 9000 Bitrate @30fps // 12000 Bitrate @60fps
- “faster” preset by default
- “veryfast” preset if you have performance issues
If you have a good computer and a high internet upload, use these advanced settings:
- CBR
- 16000 Bitrate // 21000 Bitrate@60fps
- “medium” preset
5. Choose Audio Bitrate Levels
Choose an Audio Bitrate of between 192 and 320. This range represents medium through the highest quality audio supported by the MP3 standard.
