Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Zoasty Sets a New Super Metroid World Record
Huge news for Speedrun fans and Super Metroid fans! A brand new world record has been set for Super Metroid in the 80% category by none other than Zoasty.
Oh- did we mention that he beat it twice? The first time was August 25th, with a time of 40 minutes and 50 seconds, an impressive feat in itself, but the second time just a few days later on August 28th, he managed to beat his previous time by 4 seconds with an amazing 40 minutes and 46 seconds.
Fans of Zoasty on Reddit were excited and amazed at both times and the fact that he managed to get two world records so close to each other. One Reddit user noted the mistakes in his record-breaking 40-minute and second run that cost him a few seconds and commented on the "new tricks that improved his time in the second run", however Zoasty replied saying that there were no new tricks and went on to say "Yeah, both runs have mistakes. It's pretty unavoidable in this game, I think... It's more about reducing them to the minimum and less catastrophic mistakes paired with stretches of great gameplay and fortunate RNG, recovering from things and trying to finish strong." When asked about game cycles that he might be trying to figure out, he said "Phantoon RNG would be nice. It cycles between Fast Mid Slow Slow every frame, so you'd need to manipulate it frame perfectly into the boss room to get a fast manip."
We're incredibly impressed with the near flawless execution and almost perfect RNG of both runs, and we can't wait to see what he has in store.
