Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Super Mario World Inspired Map

Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Super Mario World Inspired Map

Reddit is great for so many things with so many cool subreddits. An unassumingly awesome subreddit is MapPorn, which is exactly where we found an incredible map of Europe in the style of Super Mario World, and it is glorious!

The creator of this nostalgic and detailed map periodic lunchbox posted the map saying "Well, it's finally done. My map of Europe, inspired by Super Mario World! It took a couple of months, had to take some breaks because some of the work was incredibly tedious. I'm really happy with the results. After making a map of Iceland and The Netherlands I couldn't decide which country I wanted to do next, so I did them all."

It looks like a massive undertaking, and they said that while they don't know exactly how long it took, about a hundred hours went into creating it. There is even a time lapse video of the entire process. We weren't the only ones impressed with the pixelated map, user offensive_noises commented saying "Impressive! So detailed. You should get this printed, cause I surely think people want to hang this in their room." Yes, we are those people. Another user darwinpatrick said "This is mesmerizing! Incredible work. I agree with the other commenter; people would 100% buy this."

We have to agree, we are the people who would buy this and hang it on our wall. What do you think of the Super Mario World Inspired Map? Would you hang it on your wall?

Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Cuphead Game & Watch

Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Cuphead Game & Watch

Indieretronews.com shared some pretty cool news regarding the popular game, Cuphead. Remember the Game & Watch handheld games from the '80s? They were developed and released by Nintendo from 1980 to 1991 and each had only one game.

Well, it's back with the fan made Cuphead: Game & Watch! Which in our opinion, is the perfect retro-styled game to do this way. It looks like it was made for the throwback game series and would be fun to play just about anywhere.

The creators left a note to players on their page saying "Here is Cuphead: Game & Watch Edition, a tribute to one of our favorite video games. As Game & watch lovers, we wanted to mix these universes together and do our best to achieve a good result."

Would you buy a Game & Watch now in 2020 with so many other portable consoles like the Nintendo Switch?

Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Zoasty Sets a New Super Metroid World Record

Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Zoasty Sets a New Super Metroid World Record

Huge news for Speedrun fans and Super Metroid fans! A brand new world record has been set for Super Metroid in the 80% category by none other than Zoasty.

Oh- did we mention that he beat it twice? The first time was August 25th, with a time of 40 minutes and 50 seconds, an impressive feat in itself, but the second time just a few days later on August 28th, he managed to beat his previous time by 4 seconds with an amazing 40 minutes and 46 seconds.

Fans of Zoasty on Reddit were excited and amazed at both times and the fact that he managed to get two world records so close to each other. One Reddit user noted the mistakes in his record-breaking 40-minute and second run that cost him a few seconds and commented on the "new tricks that improved his time in the second run", however Zoasty replied saying that there were no new tricks and went on to say "Yeah, both runs have mistakes. It's pretty unavoidable in this game, I think... It's more about reducing them to the minimum and less catastrophic mistakes paired with stretches of great gameplay and fortunate RNG, recovering from things and trying to finish strong." When asked about game cycles that he might be trying to figure out, he said "Phantoon RNG would be nice. It cycles between Fast Mid Slow Slow every frame, so you'd need to manipulate it frame perfectly into the boss room to get a fast manip."

We're incredibly impressed with the near flawless execution and almost perfect RNG of both runs, and we can't wait to see what he has in store.

Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Zangief in Street Fighter 2

Weekly Dose of Gaming News - Zangief in Street Fighter 2

Turns out we could've gotten a very different version of Zangief for Street Fighter 2.

In a youtube video, game producer Yoshiki Okamoto shared some very interesting insights regarding the strength of the character. Zangief has become known as one of the weaker characters in Street Fighter but it wasn't always that way. In the early development of the game there was one player aftly referred to as the Zangief expert, who would always, and we mean always win with that character.

No matter what the developers try to do to modulate the character, he still won. The company even sent some of their staff to observe the player and reported that he managed to win a whopping 85 times in a row. This led to developers majorly scaling back on the strength of the character and Okamoto blames the whole thing on that one player saying "It's your fault Zangief became weaker. But thanks to you, he's become a specialist's character throughout the series."
